D:STR:CT Records proudly welcomes Rolasoul to the family, marking a special moment as the London-based duo make their debut on the label with the luminous Crystal Skies EP.
Comprised of Simon James and Adam Helal, Rolasoul bring decades of shared musical heritage into sharp, modern focus on Crystal Skies, a release that feels both expansive and intimate, rooted in dancefloor heritage yet unmistakably forward-facing.
Simon James first rose to prominence after winning Mixmag’s elite DJ Competition, earning the title of Mixmag DJ of the Year and quickly becoming a fixture at the legendary Hard Times parties. Founder Stephen Raine famously remarked, “I knew in five minutes, you could tell,” as Simon went on to share stages with house icons such as Todd Terry and Roger Sanchez.
Simon’s journey has taken him through seminal venues including The Haçienda, Cream, Ministry of Sound, and Renaissance, touring internationally across Ibiza, New York, and Australia, and cementing a reputation for deep, emotionally charged sets that transcend genre boundaries.
Adam Helal’s musical lineage is equally rich. From remixing Candi Staton’s ‘You Got The Love’ to releases on Go Beat and Fantazia, Adam became a highly sought-after collaborator across house and garage. Beyond the club, he was also bassist and songwriter for the iconic post-punk band The Fall, contributing to The Marshall Suite and The Unutterable, while touring globally and appearing at festivals including Glastonbury and Burning Man.
Now united at their Tileyard London studio, Rolasoul channel their shared intuition into Crystal Skies, a refined yet soulful EP that balances melodic depth, groove-led energy, and subtle emotional pull. It’s music designed for late-night floors, sunrise moments, and everything in between.
